Business Blog: Build your Salon Team with the Right Feedback
Why it's good to fight “with” your staff.
That sounds like something you should try to avoid at all costs and, in a toxic environment where staff and management are, at worst, sworn enemies or, at best, on opposite teams, I suggest you do exactly that.
However...
Successful businesses are made up of staff and management all fighting on the same side for the same thing - to be successful. It is inconceivable that the salon is successful, but the staff are not contributing to that success.
The problem is that staff don't always receive feedback on the things they do well. In fact, most feedback tends to be negative.
Make Your Feedback Positive to Help Build Your Team Ethos
Try conducting periodic performance reviews with your staff to create the opportunity to give both positive and negative feedback. A natural result of performance reviews is helping staff to set growth targets.
'Feedback is the breakfast of champions' and communication is the most effective weapon management can arm their staff with. This can be a casual "well done" on a piece of work, or on a good day or when they achieve a target they were working towards.
Staff, like clients, need to be given recognition and reward to make them loyal.
