How (and why) to be a Great Teacher
Every hairstylist needs to be able to teach... whether you are inspiring the beginners and students working in your salon, or helping explain to a client how a product or treatment works (which can boost sales!). What is the secret to being a great teacher?
Firstly – be engaging. You must be able to bring your subject to life. Being able to explain clearly, simply, and in a way that holds the listener’s attention, will mean you get your message across clearly.
Secondly – have a clear objective. You must keep your focus on what you are teaching, why you are teaching it, and what you want the outcome to be.
Thirdly – knowledge. Having an in depth knowledge of what you are teaching will allow you to answer any questions confidently, adding to the value of what you are imparting.
Fourthly – caring. The saying is true that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. You must understand what’s in it for them, why the information will benefit them, and how they can use it to help better themselves, whether it’s a student being more successful in the salon, or a client being able to manage her hair better and keep it healthier at home.
